In Painting Fabric Hall introduces several classical approaches for realizing the dynamic form of fabric, through painting elegant sections of white, red and blue cloth. Included within the two-hour DVD are stunning close-up shots of Hall’s classical brushwork, color mixing techniques, in addition to views of his studio as he discusses his paintings at various stages. Through his innovative, step-by-step approach, he outlines the processes that were used by such traditional 19th century painters as Edgar Degas and Edouard Manet. Using a clear and concise teaching approach, Hall reveals the secrets behind creating brilliant paintings of cloth, covering such topics as observing the basic shapes, painting the foundation forms, modeling the fabric folds, contrasting warm and cool colors, and dark and light values. Hall has taught art for over twenty years, and currently is an Professor of Art at a college in New York. ARTNews Magazine critic, Gerard Haggerty, states that Hall Groat II’s still life paintings evoke the big picture that we call art history, including painters like Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, Edwin Dickinson, and his teacher Lennart Anderson.” Collectors of his work have expressed that the work is “Alive, full of grace vitality and beauty, capturing light that is sublime in nature.” Video Rating: 5 / 5

Question by আমন্দ: How much for fabric in Kolkata?
I am coming from U.S. to visit Kolkata for 2 weeks and have lots of souvenir requests for fabrics from India. One request is for white bridal fabric (enough to make a U.S. wedding style gown), one request is for table top decor, and one request is for wall hanging material. How much in dollars or in rupees should I expect fancy or simple cloths to cost per yard? How is it sold in Kolkata? By the yard? Or on cloth bolts like it’s sold in U.S.? Where are good fabric shops to find things like this? Thanks!

Answer by smeen I just want to answer the white fabric for bridal gown. For this, you could travl to Assam, which is also known as land of silks. There you will get Assam Silk, which is known as Paat Silk in local. This is a veru good quality of raw silk.
In Assam, if you want to visit the Silk factories, then you will have to viist Sualkuchi. This is a small town, which is just 4 hrs drive from its capital city Guwahati, Guwahati is well connected with Kolkata by flight and train.
You could have a few glimpses of Such white silks in this link: www-users.cs.umn.edu/…/assamese_wedding.html

Question by mireflejomaryr: Inexpensive fabric tablecloth (buy or rent) for a party?
I am looking to buy or rent inexpensive table cloths, linen, cotton, whatever.. in chicago area.. any ideas?
Best answer:
Answer by loves christmas lights Id go to a thrift store, you can mix and match colors for a nice effect.
You can rent, not for cheap though at party rental stores, use google maps, put in your address, on the map put party rentals in the search nearby option and they will be shown in proximity to your home.
I bought some off craigslist, if theres none listed, put in the wanted section the amount and colors you want, if you purchase them, then you can resell them. Thats exactly what I did, bought alot of stuff for a party on craigslist and then resold as a package deal, made all my investment back too.

Question by freaky421: Is linen fabric different then counted cross stitch fabric?
As far as stitching a counted cross stitch pattern. I use the same basic stitches & measuring, right?
Best answer:
Answer by whimwinkle I’ve used linen for cross stitch. It’s counted 1 over 2 or 1 over 3. That’s one cross stitch over two linen threads. It’s easier to do.
Go ahead and try the linen.
So yeah, it’s like cross stitch fabric.

Question by marina: What kind of fabric do you use as table cloths for a wedding reception?
My wedding is in July of ’08. We are having a beach themed wedding and our reception is going to be outside in a large white tent. I need to know what kind of fabric to use as the table cloths. I’m planning on having them aqua/turquoise and lime and purchasing the fabric from joann fabrics. I might have them white with a lime or turquoise runner down the middle. Any help is appreciated.

Answer by Deanri If you are going to have white tablecloths with a runner or overlay, use organza, that would be really pretty.
