Question by bob: Physics: what horizontal distance does the block cover before hitting the ground?
a 1.25kg block of wood sits at the edge of a table, 0.752m above the floor. a 0.0105kg bullet moving horizontally with a speed of 725m/s embeds itself within the block. What horizontal distance does the block cover before hitting the ground?
please go step by step using equations and the numbers provided.
thanks!!!
Best answer:
Answer by David N
0.0105 kg * 725 m/s = (1.25+0.0105) kg * x m/s
(Conservation of momentum)
Figure out the time (t) to free fall from a height of 0.752 m
h = 1/2 * g*t^2
t = sqrt (2h / g)
t = sqrt (2*0.752 m / 9.8 m/s^2)
t s * x m/s = x*t m

Question by tiffany p: Is it legal for a restaurant to charge a cover?
About 6 months ago a restaurant I go to for Karaoke and ladies’ night (free wells and beer for ladies) started charging a cover of . ( if you’re under 21). Can they do this? I’ve tried to contact my local lawmakers and can’t figure out whose jurisdiction this falls under. This is a restaurant, NOT a club. There is no dance floor. Just tables, and booths, and there IS a bar over on the side. As far as I can tell, DJ’s are NOT covered as “entertainment” in our area. How does a restaurant get away with charging a cover?

The restaurant doesn’t “close”, and then start charging cover. In the area I live in, any establishment that is licensed as a restaurant MUST serve a menu during ALL opening hours. And they do.

Yes, it’s a business and they have the right to operate as they please. A cover charge is not against the law. If this bothers you I would suggest you go to another establishment.

Question by Branston: What type of damages does sony continuous play cover?
Mine was working fine till my computer table/monitor fell on it and knocked it over crushing parts of it inside. Now it just freezes about about 5 minutes. How would I explain this to them? also do I have to ring sony before I ring CP for a replacement?
Best answer:
Answer by gunman
It should be covered with continous play and since yours happened by accident, you should contact CP directly… it says:
“we’ll replace your PlayStation® system within two working days if it develops a fault after your manufacturer’s warranty expires or if it becomes damaged by accident.”
This is where I got it:

Question by still wondering…: Is there anything that can be used to cover unused bulb sockets?
We have a light right above our dining table with 4 bulb sockets, but we only use two bulbs. We think it unnecessary to use all four. Now we need something to put in the empty sockets to prevent curious fingers from getting to it.
Best answer:
Answer by bushmaster8
First, if the fixture is ABOVE your dining table, it is not a very easy thing for “curious fingers” to engage. On the other hand, it’s better safe than sorry, so…
I suggest that you go to your local hardware store, or Home Depot, or Lowe’s, or similar building supply.
In the electrical department they will have SINGLE RECEPTACLE devices that have a screw base [just like a light bulb has]. The purpose of these devices is to allow one to plug an extension or power cord into a light bulb socket.
Simply screw one of these devices into the unused light sockets and exploring fingers cannot get into the sockets.

Question by : What is the best font and color scheme for a book cover?
About fonts, I am choosing between Avenir LT 65 Medium, Futura LT Book, Helvetica LT Light, and Avant Garde LT Medium. For the color scheme, I want a solid neutral color to contrast with the text, since it’s a coffee table book I am making.
Best answer:
Answer by ah..well..life
I’m feeling really partial to the Futura LT Book, and depending on the color of the coffee table (not that it really matters), I think a nice rich brown for the book versus a brighter/lighter cool color or white for the text.

Question by UCDscholar: What makes Honors Chemistry difficult and what topics do you cover?
I am taking it this year and I was told that it was very tedious and time consuming. I have nearly memorized the periodic table and can balance equations very well, so what else is there to learn? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by Pat T
Depends on the school but based on what I took, there is much more than just knowing the periodic table and balancing equations. You’ll learn about moles, chemical bonding, periodicity & properties of elements, solutions, acids & bases, polyatomic ions, gas laws & gasses, stoichiometry, reaction kinetics, thermochemistry and maybe a dabble of quantum chemistry.

Tonight’s the first night and noticed the problem. My little table lamp is a bit bright as the bulb shines out of the top. I put a price of paper over but was still bright, now I have a ps2 game over it but I don’t want it to melt.
What can I do?

It’s dangerous to cover a lamp with anything – just buy a less powerful bulb
